Guests staying at Amilla Maldives Resort and Residences between the 7th and 16th of April will dive into a treasure trove of entertainment, classes, excursions and performances inspired by Robert Louis Stevenson’s 1883 classic tale of adventure, Treasure Island. The naturally lush private island resort offers an Easter festivities programme brimming with more than 20 buccaneering activities and events planned each day.
Seaward Ho! – Mini pirates will enjoy an array of activities including Treasure Map Making, Pirate Ship-building and Crafty Pirates sessions, as well as Long John Silver’s Piratic Pool Party – which promises to be a splash-tastic affair. As all wee pirates need to be fit as a fiddle, the Easter Circus School is the place to get ready for any challenge that comes their way. The island’s team of professional performers is on hand to train them in the art of juggling, and for those with a head for heights, aerial and aero-balance.
Set sail for adventure – A Pirate Treasure Island Cruise departs Monday 10th April at 5 pm. The one-hour sunset sail circumnavigates the island in a Maldivian dhoni – a traditional boat typically used for fishing and inter-island transportation. Refreshments will be served on board during the 60-minute voyage ‘of the high seas’, which also includes entertainment and a surprise visitor (Shhh! The Easter Bunny will be on board). Kids joining the voyage are invited to dress up.
After a full day’s adventures, it’s time for some campfire-side tales and legends and classic pirate movies – including both the original and Muppets versions of Treasure Island! – screened at the resort’s al fresco Jungle Cinema.
Landlubbers can also look forward to lots of traditional festive fun, including an Easter Egg-making class and Hunt, the ‘Hop Hop Parade’, and a bunny costume-making class. Less hands-on but equally entertaining will be performances by the resident magician, fire dancer, sand artist and aerialists. A sensory team-building experience, batik workshops and hot cross bun-baking classes are available for ‘bigger kids’ (aka adults), while those celebrating Orthodox Easter can look forward to a traditional Easter Egg Roll and gala dinner.
Daily activities start as early as 6am on selected days with traditional sunrise fishing, whilst evening performances, karaoke and live music commence from 9pm each night.
Special guests – Sporting fans will be invited to coaching sessions by special guests, tennis ace Ekaterina Makarova and former England international footballer Rob Green. The former world number one tennis player and goalkeeping legend will be sharing tips and advice with guests wanting to improve their game.
Events Manager of Amilla Maldives Resort and Residences, Suzy Ahmed says “We are very excited to welcome families this Easter. The morning-through-night programme of activities has something for everyone. We are particularly enthusiastic to welcome would-be biologists to our Biosphere Defenders learning experience. This is a unique opportunity for our young guests to deepen their understanding of life in the ocean, something that is important to us year-round, not just Easter time. Our very own marine biologist Zoe and our turtle expert Afrah will share their knowledge in this educational and fun session.”
Ahmed concluded, “Easter will be very special for all the family this year at Amilla”.
